Grants
Since its founding in 1992, Nantucket Education Trust has supported classroom and extracurricular projects, underwritten mini grants to teachers and staff for professional development, boosted new sports programs, and helped fund preschool education. In the past, NET provided startup support for Nantucket Ice, MUSACK, and the Kate MacLellan Fund.
We are proud to support a variety of grant programs throughout the Nantucket Public School system. Grant recipients complete a short follow up survey. The survey responses tell stories of the many ways NET reaches out to our school community.

Recent NET Grants
Year-Round Programming
Nantucket Community School offers a variety of year-round programs for islanders of all ages. Nantucket Education Trust (NET) partially funds one of the vehicles used in NCS’s driver’s education program, supports Summer Boost, NCS’s kindergarten-readiness initiative designed for Nantucket’s youngest islanders, and most recently provides tuition assistance enabling families to benefit from NCS’s programming, including kindergarten Extended Day and ACKventure Summer Camp.

Journey across the Sound
Nantucket High School
In the Journey Across the Sound program, high school sophomores and juniors can visit community and 4-year college campuses and vocational schools on the mainland. NET funds this project to offset the significant costs of traveling off-island that prevent many students from the opportunity to see what their options are after graduation. The JAS program has provided chaperoned day trips for hundreds of Nantucket High School students. NET is proud to be a continued partner and supporter of this successful program.
Science Exploration
The MMA provides year-round, hands-on science programs for students of all ages. NET proudly offers grant funding to support many of these programs that benefit our NPS students. NET provided grant funding for eclipse glasses for the community to view the total solar eclipse from the playing fields next to Nantucket High School. Recently, NET funded the purchase of star charts for future MMA programming.

History from All Angles
The Nantucket Historical Association provides learning opportunities within our NPS classrooms, opening the doors of history to students of all ages. Recently NET provided grant funding to purchase graphic novel books as part of the NHA’s Nancy Gardner Prince Graphic Novel Memoirs unit.
