Grants
Since its founding, Nantucket Education Trust has helped in myriad ways to make Nantucket’s public schools better for the island’s children and teachers. NET has supported classroom and extracurricular projects, underwritten mini-grants to teachers and staff for professional development, boosted new sports programs, and helped fund preschool education. NET has also been the startup fiscal support for Nantucket Ice, MUSACK, Kate MacLellan Fund, and many more. There is a certain element of pride being the catalyst that makes things happen!
NET is proud to support a variety of grant programs throughout the Nantucket Public School district. Recent programs have included the 5th Grade trip to Camp Bournedale, the Spanish Leadership group trip to a leadership conference, the NHS Music Department’s trip to the All Cape Music Festival just to name a few. Each grant recipient is expected to complete a short follow up survey on their program. The follow up survey can be found here: https://forms.gle/47Gxr7mE5TWvLG7G9
Do you have an educational program that you would like to bring to our school district? We encourage you to apply!
Past Projects Supported by NET
The Nantucket Project, Winter Edition
The Nantucket Education Trust takes a keen interest in discussing topics that influence life on the island and the community within. In an effort to further explore wide-ranging and deep-thought, NET has contributed as a partial sponsor to The Nantucket Project, Winter Edition.
In 2018, the Nantucket Project featured Adam Foss, founder of Prosecutor Impact, working to solve the problem of mass incarcerations and develop a restorative justice system. Also presenting were Raegan Sealy, a poet/signer/rapper; Clare Cunningham, Irish rocker; and more.
The 2017 TNP featured a panel discussing “Charting a Course for Hope,” as well as a discussion on “Who Runs Nantucket?, and a lively discourse on “Finding Your Best Self.”
Summer-Boost Kindergarten Readiness Program
Since 2013, NET has been the forerunner in funding the transportation costs related to the Summer Boost Kindergarten Readiness, a program designed for Nantucket’s youngest islanders. This gift continues to decrease barriers to participation and ensures consistent attendance to this integral pre-kindergarten experience. Summer Boost is designed for children with limited exposure to academic skills including letter and number recognition, language, fine and gross motor skills and pro-social activities. More than 120 children have grown from this generous gift.
Nantucket Scallop Research Internship Project
Researcher, Peter Boyce, under the direction of Maria Mitchell Association mentored three student interns to gather and analyze data collected regarding scallop propagation. NET supported this project by funding one exemplary student intern.
Elementary School Playground
A grant was allocated to support the construction of a new playground for the Elementary School.
Guest Speaker Navy Seal, Ryan Peters
NET, in collaboration with Egan Maritime Institute & Nantucket Public Schools, invited all community members to hear Ryan Peters share his personal experience as a Navy Seal.
Holiday on Broadway with Leah Hocking
NET was excited to assist in bringing leading Broadway Vocalist, Leah Hocking, to Nantucket for a Holiday on Broadway performance with the Nantucket High School Choir – a once in a lifetime opportunity for many of our high school students.
